What is a condom?

A Condom acts as a wall for avoiding pregnancy. They are an alternative method of contraception. There are condoms for male and female both. A male condom is made out of rubber called latex which is worn on the penis while a female condom has one close end which is inserted in the vagina and other end is open for the entry of the penis. It is a polyurethane sheath which has adjustable ring at both the ends. Male condoms are more widely used as compared to female condoms.  There are many benefits of using condoms apart from preventing pregnancy. They also prevent you from various types of sexually transmitted diseases. They will act as a barrier for the semen from moving into the vagina. The male condom is rolled over the penis when it becomes hard or erect. The tip of the condom has some space where the ejaculated semen stays. One should take care while using them as there are chances that it might break and cause the semen to enter the vagina. This may lead to pregnancy in many cases. The side effects of using condoms may include allergy to the rubber or may cause irritation to vagina or penis which is not very common.
