What Is Natural Birth Control? : The Complete Guide To natural family planning & birth control methods, Including The Birth Control Pills

Natural birth control prevents pregnancy of a woman when she is fertile. It is also known as periodic abstinence. Natural birth control is the traditional method that the women use to control her fertility through fertility awareness or by natural family planning. It includes a number of techniques such as sympto-thermal method, ovulation mucus method, and the calendar based methods such as standard day’s method and the rhythm method.

These methods are based on the principle that the woman is fertile during the natural birth control and can be used by the couples who are trying to conceive. Family planning procedure is most popular with some people while other people think that the techniques used in it are time consuming. If the natural birth control method is ignored then the chances of becoming pregnant increases.

Since the use of fertility awareness method involves the participation of both male and female, this method is not suitable with the people in long term relationship. Secondly this method does not provide protection against disease that is transmitted sexually. Hence it is important to use this method for the people committed in long term relationship. In such circumstances it becomes necessary to use condoms during sexual intercourse for the prevention of sexually transmitted disease.

Can birth control pills cause weight gain?

Many women who take birth control pills blame them for weight gain but it is not the case with every women. According to the current studies most of the women do not gain weight due to birth control pills.

Only just about 10% of the women taking these pills have actually gained weight. This does not mean that birth control pills result in weight gain, it is clearly coincidental. It’s not the use of the pills which result in weight gain but as women get older they naturally gain weight. Limiting contraceptive pills may not keep their weight under control. Previous studies on birth control pills show that gain in weight was a problem from fluid retention and fat deposition with the older contraceptive pills having high hormone doses. These factors may be still active in some women who might still be sensitive to even low hormone contraceptive pills. Estrogen in high doses may cause gain in weight due to fluid retention.

As the amount of estrogen in the pill increases the tendency to gain weight is increased.  In another study investigators found that over 10% of women increased their weight over 2 Kg but close to 15% decreased around 2 kg on the same pill. So we can say that the amount of weight gained was equivalent to the amount of weight lost.
